in the mood for...

What are you in the mood for? I like to think of Valentine's Day as the gateway to the season of spring. This schizophrenic winter can't make up it's mind--what season is it again?  Is it "climb under your blanket and nest, or get out your shorts and flip-flops?  What a perfect time to come in to Calverts to help you on your journey back into sanity.

Valentine's Day may be over, but there's plenty of time to experience some botanical love.  Love expressed to family or friends. Or love passed on to yourself,  by bringing fresh new beauty into your home. Do you find yourself becoming heady for hydrangeas, falling victim to azalea adoration, or sighing over cyclamen?  You sooo want the winter to end, so you can start fresh on a whole new look.  You want to see some bright colors and inspiring ideas to help you get out of the winter rut.

In January, the Tropical Plant Industry Exhibition in Florida showcases the newest and best in the plant world and more.  It's sensory overload in colors and textures. It's the flame that lights the fire of ideas  for ourselves, that we can pass along to our customers. And the trade markets show the best of new outdoor pots and indoor cachepots for us to bring in for you.  We have received so many new things,  I'd like to highlight a few of my favorites.

Warm weather is a long way away, but why not dream of sun-kissed patios filled with your favorite botanical friends?  These pots have so much potential to get you in the mood for spring.  Yay--new pot--antique silver!  I like the way it reflects the sun.  Aegean-finished pots are so out-of-the-ordinary.  They remind me of an excavation treasure hunt from a long-lost village.  Antique terra cotta is versatile; it can blend with many different kinds of décor.  And glazes, whether black and white or colorful, are always a fun way to showcase your plants.  Arm this studded pot with an agave or cactus, and you've got a playful poke at "armed security".

But what if you simply cannot bring yourself to brave the cold and crazy weather to look at all these cool pots?  No problem, 'cause we have the struck the motherlode  of new pots for you to peruse.  Bowls are all the rage to fill with orchids, succulents, or anything else that will fit in them.  Some stand out because they have such interesting textures and are able to compliment your botanical selections, others because they appear in the most to-die-for colors that I can't help but think, if I love 'em, so will you.  And hey, if you don't have a spot for a new bowl, how about hanging an air plant or two on a wall, or suspending one from above?

Need help deciding what to put in your new pot?  Want to see more?  Get in the mood's always the season for botanical love!
